Medical school 140th anniversary celebrated with distinctive visual design

13 October 2026

HKUMed’s anniversary mark places a medical cross within the number 140 and draws on the faculty’s teal colour palette.

The Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2027. The milestone honours its heritage while looking ahead to the contribution medicine makes to people and society.

HKUMed engaged Stepworks to develop an anniversary visual identity around the theme Innovate Health · Inspire Humanity. The design needed to work alongside the university and faculty brand identities across institutional communications and public activities.

Health at the heart

The solution combines a bold 140 YEARS wordmark with the anniversary theme. A medical cross within the 4 places health and care at the centre of the design.

Layered teal forms suggest movement and progress. Colours are part of HKUMed’s existing palette, while the university shield and faculty name maintain a visible connection with the parent institution.

One identity, many applications

Stepworks developed signature variations for different layouts, together with faculty, department and school lock-ups. Colour, black, white and two-colour versions support different backgrounds and production requirements.

Supporting graphics draw on the cross and circular forms within the anniversary mark. An animated version extends the identity to digital settings, while application examples show how the system can work across communications.

Keeping the anniversary recognisable

Usage guidelines bring the artwork together with rules for typography, colour, spacing and minimum sizes. These guidelines help teams and production partners apply the identity consistently without having to recreate it.

The system gives HKUMed a common visual language for its anniversary, connecting a long medical heritage with a continuing commitment to human health.
