HKDC Design Spectrum features Hong Kong Tramways’ brand

Design Spectrum is an initiative launched by Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) and sponsored by Create Hong Kong. It nurtures local creative capital and cultivates a flourishing design and design thinking culture.

Running from November 2022 to January 2023, Design Spectrum event titled always sought to, “find out where design ideas come from, how it is closely related to our living and environment, affecting different aspects of daily life”. 

The story behind the rebrand of Hong Kong’s iconic trams was included in the always exhibition’s Repair, Create and Be Conscious zone. 

This exhibit revealed how the rebrand developed as a collaboration between HK Tramways and the branding, design and digital agency, Stepworks. It looked at how the beloved trams got their smile, and how the tram livery became a unique Hong Kong Tram Green Pantone colour.

The attention the exhibition received from visitors emphasised the special place Hong Kongers have in their hearts for their trams.
